We were super happy to have been invited to give a talk at the Helmholtz Berlin Machine Learning Summer School, which took place on 17. September. The recording of the talk can be found here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkdhlPNa0SU

This year’s summer school targeted master and PhD students who are eager to deepen their knowledge in machine learning and students with a data and computer science background and who already have had some experience with machine learning. The aim was to give participants the opportunity to listen to stimulating lectures and to (further) develop hands-on AI skills in hackathons.

Under the title “LF1: the road from NLP research to innovation hub” Duncan and Sebastian discussed the technical challenges, decisions and opportunities which we faced in bootstrapping our deep-learning startup from a two-person broom-cupboard operation to serving live deep-learning models for numerous of the largest companies in Europe. Our presentation covered the deep learning architectures, software design decisions and business strategy we chose during our journey. We also demonstrated the technology on which we have worked upon, including our deep-learning based e-commerce navigation solution, now part of Attraqt Group PLC, as well as showcasing our flagship open source project LF soon to be published on GitHub. Finally, we discussed the relevance of the latest AI research and its significance for our future endeavours.

We enjoyed meeting an interesting crowd of ML enthusiasts and we were very pleased with the high-level engagement from the audience through high quality questions and discussions.

We are looking forward to other interesting things happening in the Helmholtz netzwork. Thanks for having us.
